The latest tanning trend? Hard pass from us.
Melanotan, often called the “Barbie Drug,” is being promoted online as a shortcut to darker skin. What many people don’t realize is that these products are not FDA-approved and may come with some serious health risks.
Potential risks include the possibility of benign moles turning into dysplastic nevi (atypical moles) and even melanomas. It’s also been documented to cause muscle damage and systemic toxicity. Because these products are largely unregulated, there are still many unanswered questions about their long-term safety.
Still want that bronzed glow? Avoid injectable or intranasal tanning drugs. Sunless self-tanner is a great option!
