Albert E. “Bo” Rivera,
Dr. Albert E. “Bo” Rivera is a licensed physician and surgeon in Alabama, board-certified diplomat of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, a fellowship-trained member of the American College of Mohs Surgeons as well as member of several dermatology and medical specialty organizations such as the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Mohs Surgery, American Academy of Dermatology, Skin Cancer Foundation and the Madison County Medical Society.
He was born and grew up in nearby Haleyville, Alabama, graduating from Haleyville High School. Afterward, he completed his undergraduate education at Auburn University, earning a degree in Premedicine and Zoology while also a letter-winning member of its' nationally ranked track and field teams. Following his hometown friend and primary care doctor's footsteps, he completed his medical training at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. His internship in General Surgery was done at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, Kentucky, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in Saint Petersburg, Florida. At Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri, he completed both a Dermatology residency as well as a Dermatology research and laser fellowship under the direction of Lloyd J. Cleaver, DO. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Rivera was nationally awarded the James Bernard, D.O. Residency Leadership Award based on integrity, respect, empowerment and initiative. The final honor in his training was completing a Mohs Micrographic Surgery subspecialty fellowship under the direction of Roger I Ceilley, MD and Andrew K. Bean, MD in West Des Moines, Iowa. Over the years he has had the opportunity to publish several articles in national and international medical journals as well as authoring chapters in medical textbooks and online. Dr. Rivera serves on the editorial boad for the Jounral of Clinical and Aesthtic Dermatology and the Journal of the American Ostepathic College of Dermatolgy as well as serving on the AOCD Editorial/Public Relations Committee and as an American Academy of Dermatolgy Liason. He has also given presentations at local, national and international venues to both non-medical and medical professionals throughout his medical career.
Dr. Rivera enjoys multiple aspects within Dermatology but has specific interest and extensive training in the prevention and treatment of skin cancers. Personally, he enjoys traveling, educating others, general fitness as well as participating in and viewing multiple sports. Also, away from work, he enjoys time with his wife, Stephanie, a daughter who was born in 2015 and their Labradoodle. Numerous friends call the Madison and Huntsville area home and he hopes to contribute to and better all of the local communities. Locally, he is involved with the Huntsville Committee of 100 and is a board member and officer of the Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club. Dr. Rivera has also been awarded the Doctor's Choice Award in Dermatology for Madison. It will be a pleasure to meet all of the exceptional people of North Alabama and South Tennessee as we build our practice to better serve your needs!

The staff at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology works together to provide care that is focused on you, our guest. Each individual who visits is greeted with warmth and kindness. While you are with us, expect to be treated in a courteous manner as a unique person with specific concerns and needs. We expect that your entire visit should be based on respect: from your scheduling, to your minimal time in our reception area, to the education provided regarding your specific condition. Our team is built from individuals who represent the values we hope to convey through your care.
Christina Gayton joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology family in February of 2016. She was raised in Florida and moved to Huntsville in 2011. She is currently earning her Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and is looking forward to completing her degree the winter of 2016. Prior to working with our team she worked in the medical billing and reimbursement department for a laboratory. When Christina is not at work you will find her spending time with her daughter and her husband. She also enjoys traveling back and forth to Florida to spend time with her family any chance she gets. Christina works in the Pre-registration department so will be as helpful as possible during that process and also hopes to help make your first appointment with us a great one!
Amanda is one of our experienced billing specialists and receptionists that joined us in 2012. You will be greeted with her great smile as you enter the practice or enjoy her wonderful personality over the phone. She enjoyed serving the community in a similar capacity for more than 10 years prior to joining us and we are so pleased to have her as a part of our practice team! Amanda was born in Athens, Alabama but grew up in multiple locations - living in Hawaii, South Alabama, Germany, and Virginia - before returning to her roots in Athens. Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, reading, music, and dance fitness. She loves watching football and baseball and is excited to be a part of your healthcare team!
Dawn Hill joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology family in September 2015. Dawn is another member of our staff who grew up locally. She attended East Limestone High School where she played softball, basketball and volleyball. After graduation, she attended Calhoun Community College where she studied Medical Billing and Coding. Prior to joining the team, Dawn worked in the audiology field for over 8 years as an assistant and medical biller. Dawn enjoys spending time with her son, Evan, and her husband, Chris, who was her high school sweetheart. Whether it is helping you with preregistration, greeting you at the reception desk or assisting with billing questions, Dawn hopes to provide you with excellent service and enjoyable interaction!
Morgan Hudson joined Southeastern Skin Cancer and Dermatology family in October of 2015. She if familiar with the local area since she graduated from Ardmore High School in 2014. While in High school she ran Cross Country and played soccer. Before joining us, she worked at Limestone Healthy Facility as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Morgan is currently also going to school at Calhoun Community College to become a RN. Outside of work Morgan enjoys being outdoors and taking pictures of various objects. She also loves to be with her family and friends. Morgan is a huge Kentucky Wildcats Basketball fan. Morgan hopes to make your experience at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology one of your best!
Hannah joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology family in April of 2015 just shortly after moving to Alabama. She was raised in Augusta, Georgia but has also lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she earned her Esthetics license at Tricoli University. Within our office she is a valued Medical Assistant and also assists with laser or other esthetic needs. In her free time she enjoys hiking, going to concerts, and spending time with her friends, family and dog, Dixie. Hannah has a true passion for Dermatology and looks forward to making your visit with us educational and enjoyable!
Amber was another one of Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology's great additions in 2015. She graduated from Elkmont High School in 2008 and then spent 2 years studying nursing at Limestone County Career Technical Center. She gained her medical experience while working at Athens Rehab and Senior Care for 5 years and Athens Urology Associates for 2 years. When not working, Amber enjoys spending time with her family and son, Bentley. Also she enjoys kayaking and fishing on the weekends. Amber will help provide you with a memorable medical or surgical visit with us!
Okera Peoples is another one of our superb receptionists within the practice, joining us in 2012. She moved to Alabama from Detroit, Michigan and is currently continuing her educational pursuits at Athens State University seeking a degree in Human Resource Management. She loves the interaction with patients during their visit and enjoys watching the progress they make. Okera is a proud mother of three beautiful daughters - Taylour, Kameryn, and Peyton. She and her husband, Demetrius, are enthusiastic Alabama football fans. In her spare time, she visits her family in Michigan, shops, volunteers at her church, and enjoys staying in shape. Her favorite things about working at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology are being part of a staff that has passion for their profession, as well as getting to know our wonderful patients.
Cynthia “Cindy” Phillips joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology team in February of 2014. She was raised in Woodstock, Georgia and moved to Alabama in 2014. Cindy graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College as a Certified Medical Assistant and performed in that capacity for over 9 years prior to joining us. During that period, Cindy gained more than 3 years of experience specifically in the dermatology field. In addition, she is also a Certified Pharmacy Technician and worked previously in that role as well. Cindy has thoroughly enjoyed helping and caring for others throughout her career and has brought that excitement to our office as well. When not at work you will find her mountain biking, working on arts and crafts, or doing some volunteer work in the community.
Shannon became part of our office family in October of 2015 after having gained 10 years of medical experience. Eight of those years were as a Registered Orthopedic Technician in spine and orthopedics. She has been married since 2004 to Brandon Smith and has a son, Nathan. Shannon enjoys reading, movies, photography as well as her three rescue dogs, Byron, Bella and Wally. Shannon expects to provide you with first class attention and care during your time in our office!
Whitney Lewis joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology family in August of 2014. Previously she worked at Athens-Limestone Hospital as well as Valley Ear, Nose and Throat. She will care for you both as a Medical Assistant and address laser or ethetic concerns. Whitney enjoys riding horses and four wheelers, hiking and spending time with friends and family, including her husband to whom she married in 2016. While being seen in our office, she hopes to make your healthcare experience enjoyable and hopefully be proud to share with others!
Hannah Trosper teamed up with the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology office in November of 2014. Hannah attended Brewer High School and played four years of varsity volleyball and basketball, making it to the final four of the state tournament in both. After graduation, her educational pursuits took her to both Calhoun and Wallace Community Colleges. Prior to bringing her talents here, she worked as a receptionist and technician at Maynor, Mitchell, & Lee Eye Surgery Center. Hannah enjoys working in healthcare where she can meet and help new patients but she also hopes to pursue a career in special education. Away from her time at work, she enjoys being outdoors fishing, hunting, riding horses and four-wheelers, being an Auburn fan, spending time with family, and going to Church. Hannah hopes to provide part of the uniquely friendly and efficient experience that we pride ourselves in during your visit with us!
